MICHAEL KORS THOUGH?

You guys know I love to smack my lips, but I really want to start helping you guys find what you’re looking for. That’s the whole premise of this consulting business, right. You need me to show you where to find all the gems and how to show them off. Keep reading if you really want the tea.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know I am a fellow fashion girl. My obsessions are fur, shoes and my ‘fro (honorable mention: lip gloss). Before I go on I really want to give you the visuals, so go through this carousel, but be careful. I might become your new fave.

Frugal, not cheap

This week I have seen twitter go up in flames about Michael Kors bags. We all know Michael Kors is a luxury brand, and what I like to call a sister to brands like Marc Jacobs. The idea that luxury items are no longer luxury once they get into the hands of people from a different class needs to DIE. As a member of the largest buying power committee I want to say that we need to continue doing our best to control the narrative of things like this. We impose these pressures on ourselves to act and look rich when WE RUN THIS! It’s wild to me that these same brands people worship are actually the inspiration for them.

Anyway, I don’t want to rant, but I wanted to say that everything you buy does not have to be expensive in order for it to look luxury. Most of the looks you saw in that carousel were thrifted, bought from consignment shops or passed to me (aka stolen from my mom’s closet). People without access to $1M got creative with hand-me-downs and used clothing and made what we now call style. I like to take advantage of the fact that I don’t have Birkin bag money. I accept the challenge of taking $20 to Goodwill and finding as many gems as possible. Turning your nose up at a $50 sweater does not make you cheap. It makes you frugal (and smart if you ask me). You could do more with less, and I’m proof of it.

Project Runway: Unconventional

The best way to trick people into thinking you’re wearing something expensive is by wearing things in an unconventional way. For instance, in my little “Alice In Wonderland” look above, I wore my scarf around my head instead of around my neck. It was giving, “Auntie Chelle having tea with Manuel in Peru", and Instagram was living for it, okay?

Here’s a better example: remember when colored hair and long, printed nails used to be ghetto to high fashion brands? Yeah. Ghetto until proven fashionable sweetie.

Fashion Forward

I’m really looking forward to seeing what trends people fall for in 2021. What trends should we leave in 2020? Comment below.
